Implant Dentures & PartialsGettysburg, PA

Do your dentures slip when you bite and chew? Are your gums irritated and sensitive due to a poorly-fitted denture? Traditional dentures consist of removable false teeth on a gum-colored base. Patients with these dentures need adhesive to keep their prosthetics in place. Alternatively, implant-supported dentures create a stable and secure bite. Dental implants offer longer-lasting restorations and restore normal function.

Implant dentures are a restorative dental treatment we offer to patients with missing teeth in Gettysburg, PA. Dr. Tempel recommends implant-supported dentures to patients needing to replace several consecutive teeth or a full arch of teeth because of the important benefits they offer for oral health and quality of life.

Compared to traditional dentures, implant dentures do not need to be removed at night or for cleaning and maintenance. Implant dentures look and feel natural and offer durability and longevity. These dentures can last 15 to 25 years with good oral hygiene and dental care. Implant-secured dentures may stay fixed in the mouth, so patients can bite and chew their food easily and with fewer dietary restrictions. Implant-supported dentures also restore confident speech and the ability to enjoy interacting without feeling self-conscious about your smile.

What are the benefits of implant dentures?

  • Preservation of jaw bone: dental implants replace both the tooth root and the crown. The implant serves as a prosthetic tooth root and stimulates healthy bone growth to minimize sagging in the jaw.
  • No food restrictions: with an implant secured denture, you can enjoy a varied, more nutritious, and satisfying diet. There is no need to worry about a slipping denture while chewing.
  • Maintaining gum health: an implant secure denture will not move around and irritate or degrade the gums over time.

Before implant treatment, Dr. Tempel ensures that patients have good oral health and enough jaw bone to support their implants. She will also take dental impressions of the smile to create the denture prosthesis. Dr. Tempel works with a local oral surgeon to place the dental implants. The oral surgeon places the implant in the jaw bone. During osseointegration, the implant posts fuse with the jaw bone. After three to six months, Dr. Tempel will use the healed implants to secure the denture.

What Are Full Arch Restorations?

Dentures can be full or partial. Partial implant dentures resemble a dental bridge and replace several consecutive missing teeth. Complete dentures replace a full arch of missing teeth. A full arch restoration can restore an entire arch of teeth using dental implants. Typically, full arch restorations use four to six dental implants to secure an upper or lower arch of teeth. Patients who already wear complete dentures or have most of their teeth missing are typically good candidates for full arch restorations.

With a full arch restoration, patients do not need to restore every missing tooth with an implant. They simply receive several dental implants to secure a missing arch. As with other implant-secured dentures, we ensure that patients have sufficient jaw bone to support the dental implants.
